My mother used to read this story to me when I was little and I loved it. It has remained with me all these years. My friend recently asked me to make an illustration for their newborn of my favorite fairy tale, and it immediately came to mind. I've long since lost the book it came in, but was lucky enough to find the story as it was told to me here: How The Little Bunny Rabbit Caught the Sun
I painted this for a Birds and the Bees themed show at The Hive Gallery in LA several years ago. It tells the story of a well-intentioned father trying to explain the bird and the bees to his son, who imagines a world of sex-hungry bees, pregnant crane ladies, freshly furrowed fields, cabbages, and a blood-red sky with sperm swimming towards a big egg sun.
