OPEN CALL TO ARTISTS: A Bird in the Hand (Is Worth Two in the Bush)
**Live painters encouraged but all artists considered.**
We are curating the art portion of the Green Prize Festival (www.greenprizefestival.com) being held on Saturday, April 26th 2014 at Bixby Park.
The theme is A Bird in the Hand (Is Worth Two in the Bush) - which means it's better to have a lesser but certain advantage than the possibility of a greater one that may come to nothing. (In other words... don't go chasin' waterfalls!)
This proverb refers back to mediaeval falconry where a bird in the hand (the falcon) was a valuable asset and certainly worth more than two in the bush (the prey).
You can take this theme as literally (a bird painting with some hands and a bush) or as figuratively (going more for the underlying concept of the phrase) as you want.
We are looking for art on up-cycled or recycled materials (not required) as this is a "green" event. Take an old canvas you don't like and paint over it or find some old furniture on the side of the road and give it a facelift, etc.
We are showcasing live painters around the park and will also have a pop up gallery (consisting of temporary walls) to hang art too.
• There is a $10 fee.
• Live painters keep 100% of the sales of their work and can also show work at the pop up gallery.
• If you are showing work only, Squeeze keeps 20% of the sales to help with the cost of set up and tear down, promotion, storage, transportation and sales.
If you are interested please submit examples of your work:

Join us for the Green Prize Festival! We are curating the art element of the event this year and we plan on having some fantastic live painters, an interactive chalk wall, a pop-up art gallery, a children's paint station and tons of fun. The theme of our show is "A Bird in the Hand (Is Worth Two in the Bush.)" which the artists will be interpreting in their own way.
There will be live folk music, food trucks, green education stations and more. We're very excited to be involved in this community event and hope to see you there.
