Squeeze would like to invite you to the BirdUP workshop and gallery event on Oct 18th at A LOT North taking place on the corner of Artesia and Atlantic Bl, Long Beach 90813. We will be having a booth there.
Anyone interested in live painting a birdhouse please RSVP to us as soon as you can. This event will be a lot of fun - lots of different artists and cool performances will be happening.
In case you don't know what this is all about, A LOT is a city-wide initiative presented by the Arts Council for Long Beach in collaboration with the City of Long Beach. Each FREE A LOT event presents a variety of genres of performance in vacant lots, activating the spaces with art, culture, and even food for the community to enjoy! So bring your friends and family and check out any or all of the four dates in September and October for a full day of fun!
Our fellow member, David Hedden is in charge of the BirdUP project and has invited us to come paint birdhouses! These birdhouses are specifically designed to reintroduce the bluebird to Long Beach. Bluebirds are native to our city but the house sparrow and house wren has been aggressively edging them out because they use the same areas to nest.
This is David's second time participating in the A LOT initiative with BirdUP and this year, he's incorporated a more sensory approach to the birdhouses by asking local poets and spoken word artists to record short poems and thoughts. These recordings, along with birdsongs, are being placed inside the birdhouses so people can listen and enjoy in a new way!
